Generating electrical power on site makes sense for off-grid people.

Photovoltiac Photovoltaic

Photovoltaic or "PV" produces electrical energy directly from sunlight. Silicon collectors convert approxomately 20 percent of the sun's energy into electrical power. Set up costs are high however "PV" panels work efficiently for multiple applications, and require minimal maintenance.

Wind Wind

Wind generation is one quarter the cost of "PV", given that there would be enough wind in your locality. The rule is that the average wind in the locale would be 6 km or greater. Alberta offers some very windy sites but not all sites have feasible wind. However if you want to add wind energy to a "PV" system, it makes a good match, because when the sun does not shine, it may very well be windy that day.

Steam

Little known is the ability of the sun to make steam for electrical power generation and have heating as a bonus. Focusing collectors are required to reach temperatures capable of making steam which runs a steam engine or turbine turning a dynamo to generate electrical power. Areas with large amounts of sun can make use of this method. While we do not offer focusing collectors at this time, we anticipate offering this technology in the future as Alberta is a suitable location for using focusing collectors. You may contact us with your requirements for this type of power.
