How Does a Composting Toilet Work?

Many people use them for either main residence or camps and RV, boat, warehouse, shop, farm, etc. Each toilet produces a small amount of compost which is safe to use on plants in the yard. There is no odor produced as moisture is evaporated up the vent. A bulking material consisting of peat moss and hemp is added each time the toilet is used. To begin the process of composting, bacterial culture is added. A supply of these materials to start are shipped with your toilet, along with detailed instructions.The toilet system consists of a case, a seat, and a rotating drum inside which must be turned weekly to aerate the compost. Aerobic bacteria process the waste and there is no odor, while the resulting compost is removed twice yearly by rotating the drum backwards to dump compost into a tray which may be left for two weeks to finish composting completely. It is absolutely amazing how little compost is produced once the composting is completed. People who use composting toilets tell us they are very happy with Sun-Mar.
